The Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) has acquired land for a new elementary school in Lucan.
The new Lucan elementary school will be located on Saintsbury Line south of Gilmour Drive, behind Wilberforce Public School.
“This school will be a welcome addition to the Lucan community and shows our board’s continuing commitment to provide quality education for all students,” said Board Chair Beth Mai.
Thames Valley received close to $25 million in funding for a new school and childcare centre from the Ministry of Education in March 2024.
“As a father, I understand that the local school really is the heart of the community, and that it’s so important for young families to have a school that’s close to home,” said Todd Smith, Minister of Education. “Our government is listening to hard-working moms and dads, which is why we are more than doubling our funding to $1.3 billion for the largest one-year investment in school building in Ontario history. We are delivering the modern, state-of-the-art schools that students, families and communities deserve.”
The new school will be a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3 school with a childcare centre. The school will accommodate 531 students while the childcare centre will accommodate 88 children. Wilberforce Public School will be converted to a Grade 4 to 8 school.
The new Lucan school is expected to open in the 2026/2027 school year. Public information sessions will be announced later.
