TRAVEL - Not just about plants and growing things, Heeman’s greenhouse offers some warm winter activities. For example, their Winter Wellness has programs for all ages and even the not so exercise motivated, such as yoga, gentle fitness, a class for moms and babies, and euchre. Classes run January 10th to March 15th.
Or, learn to crochet in a one-time event on March 21. In this two-and-a-half-hour beginner workshop everything you need to “get hooked” on this hobby is included. You will learn about the types of yarn, how to read a pattern, hook sizes, and how to finish a project.
Spring break is coming and with it, Super March Break, which includes days of fun and adventure. Go on the Garden Guardian scavenger hunt and search the greenhouse for hidden protectors among the plants. Or, decorate your own hero mask and get ready to protect the greenhouse in style!
“Every hero needs a disguise!” Heeman’s states. From a chompy little swamp of doom to a Villain Bog, kids will find much to delight them. Of course, planting and gardening tips are always on deck for those starting to gain a green thumb.
Most of these activities require registration, so look on the Heeman’s site for dates and prices. www.heeman.ca.
“Founded in 1963, Heeman’s has grown from a family dream into a beloved community destination in London, Ontario,” the site states. They are in the third generation of ownership, offering “top-quality plants, local produce, family-friendly events, and seasonal Hard Cider or Mead from Heeman’s Cellar”.
Speaking of cider, view the website for the next Cider Salon Canada event, March 28. This event features Ontario’s finest cider makers, where you can meet those producers offering tastings of their orchard-based ciders. It’s a showcase of real ciders (no concentrates) from over 20 producers from Ontario and beyond.
Other events include a five-kilometer run around the property and making sourdough. Check them out if you are lost for something to do.
