GLENCOE – On Saturday March 28, local MPP Steve Pinsonneault met with the team at the Glencoe and District Curling Club to hear more about the $199,000 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that was used to install a new concrete floor at the curling club. The existing floor was past its prime, and the spring thaw/ frost was had been wreaking havoc with the playing surface the past number of years.
“This investment will help ensure the Glencoe & District Curling Club can continue to provide a safe, high-quality space where people of all ages can stay active, connect, and enjoy the sport of curling for years to come,” said Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. “Community facilities like this are at the heart of small towns across Ontario, and it’s great to see this project completed.”
The new floor project entailed terminating the existing refrigeration lines in the existing floor, and installation of a foam insulation base over the existing floor. New refrigeration piping was installed as well as new rebar before the new floor was poured on top of the existing floor. That work was performed by Drennan Refrigeration and Middlesex Concrete.
“The new floor guarantees our Club will be on solid footing for many years to come,” said Dave Lee, President of the Glencoe & District Curling Club. “The old floor had a life expectancy of 25 years, but in reality, was pushing 50 years, so it was time for a complete overhaul. Thanks to Ontario Trillium Foundation, our dream became reality!”
The Glencoe and District Curling Club is a not-for-profit organization, which provides recreational curling to their Membership of all ages, as well as free curling and instruction to community youth. The new floor will ensure great curling for many years to come, as the Club strives to promote the sport and grow its membership.
