MIDDLESEX CENTRE - Middlesex Centre has a new member of the municipal senior management team. Courtney Godfrey took up the job of Director of Community Services effective April 7th.
“Middlesex Centre is a growing municipality grounded in values I strongly align with, such as community engagement, balanced growth, and pride of place,” say Godfrey. “I believe that Middlesex Centre represents a community that I can support with a proactive, strategic approach for the future of community services while still maintaining a local identity,” adds Godfrey.
Godfrey takes over the job from Scott Mairs who left to work with the municipality in Central Elgin. She brings a long list of educational and career-related credits to the job including an MBA and certificates in sport and municipal management. “Over the past 10 years, I’ve worked in sport, recreation, and community services across the education, non-profit, private, and municipal sectors, which has given me a well-rounded perspective,” says Godfrey.
As for the challenges Godfrey sees in her new job; “one of the key challenges for Middlesex Centre will be keeping pace with population growth and evolving parks and recreation trends. It will be important to balance maintaining and reinvesting in existing infrastructure with expectations for accessible, inclusive, and safe facilities and programs, supported by thoughtful planning and community engagement.”
Godfrey says her life experiences have helped to shape the person she is. “I’ve always been passionate about recreation, which really started with playing sports in my community and continued through university. I grew up with three brothers, so it was a fairly busy and sport-heavy household,”
Away from the office, Godfrey enjoys learning in general. “Outside of work, I like to stay active or unwind with a good book or TV show, and you’ll often find me out walking my English bulldog, Rosie.”
