KOMOKA - Whether it was on two legs or four legs… they walked for a good cause in Komoka on June 13th. People and their pets took part in Steps For Pets; an event that raised money for animal charities.
In Komoka, the walk started at the Komoka Community Centre. Participants could choose either a 1-kilometer or 2-kilometer route and collected pledges for the cause. “We’re raising money for PAWS Canada,” said Komoka event organizer Brooklyn Einwiller. “We help subsidize vet care for individuals who maybe can’t afford it.”
Steps For Pets took place in three locations in Ontario; Komoka, Etobicoke and Burlington. As well as PAWS Canada, funds were raised for the Burlington Humane Society. “Our goal is to keep people and their pets together with all the work that we do at PAWS. We focus on education, advocacy, and support in keeping pets with the people who love them,” says Einwiller.
And the numbers speak to the success of the walk. The overall goal was to raise $60,000, but that was surpassed with $60,647 raised. The event drew a total of 185 participants and 44 teams.
