“Global currency?” George said. “Do you mean we used to have another currency before the one we have today?”
I responded to his question.
“Today we have the Terran. It’s used all over the planet. Right?”
“Right...I guess...” he answered.
I explained that by adopting a single currency, the many countries of the world shared the same interest rates. This provided stability in the many national economies.
“Countries could no longer use their own currency’s value - or devalue it - to take advantage of other nations with stronger currencies.”
“So, what’s the point of that, grandad?”
“Well, it removed yet another reason why wars begin.” I explained that wars have been fought for money...for resources...for religion...for women!...for political ideology.
“And that’s what the world leaders who created the Big Change did: They removed, one by one, reasons why countries went to war. So, if nobody attacked you, you didn’t have to defend yourself. With a single currency and trade rules, there was no reason to attack one another.”
“So...we got Peace?”
“Peace.”
