ILDERTON - A milestone half a century in the making is set to bring residents, local organizations and visitors together this July as Ilderton marks its 150th anniversary with a three-day community celebration.
The Ilderton 150 festivities will run July 10 to 12 at the Ilderton Fairgrounds, featuring live entertainment, a parade, historical displays, family activities, community groups, agricultural demonstrations and local vendors.
For committee chair Kristen Sybers, the celebration is about more than a weekend of events. Born and raised in Ilderton, she said the anniversary offers a chance to reflect on the community’s past while looking ahead to its future.
“We started planning back in June of last year,” Sybers said, noting that volunteers from the Ilderton Fair Board, the Tri-County Heritage Club and the Municipality of Middlesex Centre have worked together to organize the event. “We’ve all worked really well together, and we’re all just there to support each other and make sure it’s just a really great community-run event.”
According to Sybers, the celebration will be the first major anniversary event since Ilderton marked its 100th anniversary 50 years ago.
The weekend begins Friday evening with an all-ages country music concert featuring Jade Eagleson, Genevieve Fisher and Max Smith. Saturday’s schedule includes the community parade, opening ceremonies, a tractor pull, touch-a-truck activities, trivia, and family attractions. On Sunday, visitors can enjoy a pancake breakfast, historical exhibits, workshops, a garden tractor pull and community entertainment.
Sybers said one of the highlights will be a history area showcasing organizations and businesses that have helped shape the community.
“We really wanted to draw attention to the service clubs too, because we really wouldn’t be who we are today without the service clubs within Ilderton,” she said.
Several local groups will also be celebrating significant anniversaries of their own, including the Ilderton Agricultural Society, the Tri-County Heritage Club and area service organizations.
As the community prepares for the celebration, Sybers hopes residents will take the opportunity to enjoy the festivities and reconnect with the town’s history.
“I just want everyone to come out and have fun and celebrate the history of our town and how it’s gotten us to where we are today,” she said. “We’re excited to see what the next 150 years brings to our town.”
