BRYANSTON - Canada Day ended with a bang in Bryanston. The annual fireworks display capped off a day of celebration.
It began early, with a Firefighters Breakfast at the Bryanston Community Centre. “The Breakfast has always been here on Canada Day, so we just keep the tradition going,” said organizer Kent Hardy. There were 39 volunteers helping to serve up breakfast to people who lined up outside the community centre. “It’s just a nice community feel to it,” said Hardy.
The morning also featured a yard sale outside the community centre, which was one of the events organized by the Bryanston-Birr Optimists.
Although it all comes down to one day - Canada Day, the event is months in the planning beginning in February. “The last week is a lot of work,” says organizer Hadley McLean. “They serve about 700 people here for breakfast,” said McLean.
The Bryanston-Birr Optimists have been organizing Canada Day celebrations for 50 years. “Canada Day is important, and we get a lot of good community support,” said McLean.
The day’s events included a Bicycle Safety Rodeo, a Vintage Car show, games, and live music. Because of the heat, a pickleball tournament had to be moved to a different day. The festivities concluded in the evening with a fireworks display.
