GLENCOE – Families gathered at the Glencoe Fairgrounds on July 1 to celebrate Canada Day with an afternoon and evening of community activities, entertainment and traditional festivities that brought residents together despite the merciless summer heat.
The celebration featured attractions across the fairgrounds, including food trucks, live music, games, face painting, inflatable activities and the new Flying Furballs Dog Show, which quickly became one of the day’s highlights. Many members of the community gathered around the demonstration ring as handlers guided their dogs through agility courses and high-flying frisbee routines that drew applause from spectators of all ages.
With the municipal pool unavailable that week, the Southwest Middlesex Fire Department helped children stay cool by setting up a sprinkler area using a fire truck, offering families a welcome way to escape the high temperatures.
One of the event’s traditional moments came during the official Canada Day cake cutting inside the arena. Mayor Allan Mayhew joined members of the organizing committee to cut two large cakes decorated with Canadian flags and maple leaves before they were served to attendees. That moment brought together volunteers, municipal councillors and community members who helped organize the annual celebration.
Throughout the afternoon, visitors moved between the food truck area, entertainment stage and activity zones, while others stopped to watch local performers or enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere.
The event concluded with live entertainment leading into the evening fireworks display, capping off a full day of celebrations.
