PARKHILL - The Canada Day celebrations in North Middlesex, held on June 30th at Ken Vernon Park on Kerwood Road, were truly a night to remember. The family-oriented event brought the community together for an evening of fun, laughter, and camaraderie, starting at 6 PM with a vibrant Family Dance featuring the ever-popular DJ Tammy Schwartzentruber.

The festivities kicked off with the Family Dance, where DJ Tammy Schwartzentruber’s eclectic mix of music set the perfect tone for the evening. Her ability to cater to all ages and musical tastes kept the dance floor bustling with energy. Families danced together, kids showcased their best moves, and even those usually hesitant to dance found themselves swaying to the beat.

From 6:30 to 8:30 PM, the face painting station by Rivet Rental was a hub of activity. Children lined up eagerly, waiting to have their faces transformed into colourful and imaginative designs. From superheroes to animals, the talented face painters brought smiles and excitement to many young faces.

The children’s games, running from 7:15 to 8:15 PM, were a nostalgic nod to simpler times. Sack races, three-legged races, and tug-of-war brought out the competitive spirit in the kids, while also teaching them the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.

The laughter and cheers of the children as they participated in these old-fashioned games were infectious, drawing in parents and onlookers who cheered them on. Food trucks added to the festive atmosphere, offering a delicious array of treats from 6 PM onwards. Families enjoyed a variety of options, from classic festival fare like hot dogs and burgers to coffee and ice cream, ensuring there was something to satisfy every craving.

The timing of the event on June 30th ensured a great turnout. Families were able to attend without the pressure of weekday commitments, making it a relaxing and enjoyable evening for all. The large open field at Ken Vernon Park was the perfect setting, allowing ample space for all activities and for families to spread out and enjoy the festivities.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the fireworks display. It was a breathtaking finale that left everyone in high spirits. Ken Vernon Park proved to be an ideal venue for this event. It embodied the spirit of North Middlesex – a community that values togetherness, fun, and the beauty of its natural surroundings.
