WARDSVILLE - On October 26, the streets of Wardsville came alive with a vibrant mix of tradition, generosity, and community spirit, as residents and visitors gathered for the annual “Witch Walk” hosted by Your Wardsville Community Association.
This unique event, which featured a witch and warlock-themed tour and a joyful group dance, concluded with a varied meal of tasty soups and sandwiches at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, where participants shared laughter and stories.
The “Witch Walk” had a greater purpose beyond the festivities. A “Stuff the Truck” food drive collected an impressive 837.5 lbs of canned goods and $220 in donations, a display of overwhelming generosity from Wardsville’s community. These contributions were transported to St. John’s Anglican Church in Glencoe, where they were added to the Regeneration Centre: Caring Cupboard Program’s stocks to support those in need throughout Southwest Middlesex.
Southwest Middlesex firefighters also played a vital role in this community effort, consistently supporting Wardsville’s various charitable events. Alongside them, the Royal Canadian Army Cadets’ participation reinforced a sense of unity and collaboration, further bolstering the event’s success.
Another highlight of the day was the energetic and spirited “Witch Dance.” Attendees, in full costume, danced to celebrate the season while supporting the “Black Cat Challenge,” which raised $300 for the Southwest Middlesex Animal Shelter.
Denise Corneil, a dedicated member of Your Wardsville and a committed resident, played an essential role in the success of the Witch Walk. Her efforts behind the scenes helped make the event memorable, showing her deep care for the community. Her dedication and vision for Wardsville make her an invaluable neighbour and advocate, always working to highlight the best of the town.
The Witch Walk brought together Wardsville’s community in a shared celebration of generosity and warmth, reflecting the collective spirit that gives this town its unique character. From spirited dancers to volunteers and donors, everyone played a part in making the event a true success.
