SPORTS - The Lucan Irish Junior C team played several games in the past two weeks. November 16 & 17 were at home as they first hosted Thamesford on Saturday night and lost, 9-0, then hosted Mount Brydges Sunday afternoon to a loss of 3-2.
Friday November 22, they traveled to Thamesford where they fired the first round in period one. No scoring in the second but then Lucan attacked in the third to gain three goals to Thamesford’s 2, winning the match 4-2. Saturday November 23 the Irish hosted the Port Stanley Sailors. The visitors made five goals while Lucan was tied up in penalties. Another loss for the Irish, 5-0.
According to Sandra Neubauer, the organization’s General Manager, the team is not the same as it was at the beginning of the season. Trades were still on her mind as the game got underway. Another source mentioned Lucan holds the distinction of garnering the most penalties in Ontario.
Can they rise from their place as the lowest in the division? Can changing players help at this point or would the team benefit from remaining as it is and working together—as a team? Time will tell.
Meanwhile, in Parkhill, the North Middlesex Stars played Saturday November 16 hosting Aylmer to win 5-2. Friday November 22, they headed to Exeter to play the Hawks and score in all three periods, 1-2-2 to win the game at 5-2.
The following Saturday they hosted Thamesford where the visitors made 2 goals in the first period to the Stars no goals. In the second, both teams scored three and the third saw Thamesford make two more goals to win, 7-3.
North Middlesex has dropped to fifth place in the West Yeck Division.
