LUCAN BIDDULPH – The November 19 council meeting began with the mayor highlighting the success of the local Remembrance Day events, offering congratulations to the Lucan Legion for their outstanding poppy campaign, which raised $8,151.83. This funding will be used to support various veterans’ programs, including Cadets Canada and initiatives for homeless veterans. The mayor emphasized the critical role the Legion plays in the community and urged continued support for their valuable work.
The Whitfield Drain 2024 project was also discussed at the meeting, focusing on updates to the drainage assessment based on revised watershed data. Council convened as a court of revision and discussed these adjustments, with Mike DeVos from Spriet Associates presenting a revised drainage schedule. Council reviewed the changes and approved the adjustments after making slight modifications to the watershed boundaries to reflect current environmental conditions.
Several planning and land use matters were also addressed during the meeting. One key item involved the merger of two properties on Stanley Street and Walnut Street, where council approved the amalgamation of these lots into a single parcel. This decision came after the property owner revised their development plans and chose to abandon the previous development intentions. The council’s approval allowed existing structures to remain, facilitating the property owner’s revised plans.
The meeting also featured reports from various departments within the township. Lisa deBoer, Economic Development & Communications Officer, shared exciting news about a collaborative event between the Lucan Biddulph Fire Department and Enbridge Gas at Lucan Foodland. This event aims to promote energy efficiency and public safety, with an official announcement planned soon. Additionally, tenders for industrial land were posted on the township and county websites, opening up opportunities for future economic development.
Other updates included the successful craft show, which set new records for vendor participation and revenue. This event, which was organized by the township, will be formally reported at the next council meeting. Council also discussed the upcoming 40th anniversary of the Lucan Scout Guide Hall, which will be celebrated with an open house featuring displays and a time capsule opening.
