MIDDLESEX CENTRE - The Glendon Drive roundabout is up and running, although work will be paused over the winter months.
Middlesex County Engineer Chris Traini says the project is right on schedule. “The remainder of the project including the realignment of Coldstream Road, landscaping, sidewalks, paths, top coat asphalt, etc. will occur in 2025,” says Traini.
Work on stage one of the project began in September. The roundabout is located at the intersection of Glendon Drive and Vanneck Road/JeffriesRoad/Coldstream Road.
Traini says it’s generally been a smooth operation for the fall construction. “Everything has gone as expected, a few minor things but as expected for a project of this scope,” says Traini.
The roundabout is being built at a cost of $6 million, and Traini says all is going according to budget.
Although the project has meant detours and inevitable delays for motorists, Traini says the public response has been positive.
The roundabout was put in place to deal with the increasing flow of traffic along Glendon Drive, and is part of a major reconstruction of Glendon Drive from London to Highway 402. Another roundabout is under construction further east along the stretch of road where Oxford St. intersects with Gideon Drive. That project is overseen by the city of London.
At this stage of the Glendon Drive roundabout project, it’s too early to tell the impact on traffic flow. “We will be watching and evaluating once the project in complete in 2025,” says Traini.
