ADELAIDE METCALFE - Council has approved a bid for the reconstruction of the Toohill Drain following the tender process completed in late 2024. The decision was made at the January 13 council meeting, where Public Works Manager Coulter Cahill presented the tender results in the absence of Drainage Superintendent Andrew Neely.
The tender process, initiated on November 28, 2024, and closed on December 19, 2024, received three submissions from contractors. Van Bree Infrastructure submitted the lowest bid at $237,990, which was $38,900 below the engineer’s pre-tender estimate of $276,890. The other bids came from McNally Excavating LTD at $249,300 and A.G. Hayter Contracting LTD at $264,442.50.
Cahill highlighted that the bid from Van Bree Infrastructure came in significantly under the engineer’s pre-tender estimate, making it a practical and cost-effective choice for the township to approve.
The scope of the reconstruction will include drainage improvements as outlined under the Drainage Act.
Council unanimously approved the recommendation to award the contract to Van Bree Infrastructure. The project is set to begin on June 2, with a planned completion date of September 26.
The Toohill Drain reconstruction is one of several infrastructure projects prioritized by Adelaide Metcalfe to ensure long-term sustainability and functionality of its drainage systems. The successful completion of this project is expected to enhance water management for affected lands and roads within the township.
