TRAVEL - We returned to St. Marys in milder weather (we drove in a blizzard last time). The waterfalls, limestone buildings eateries are always inviting.
One such place is the Creamery Restaurant in St. Marys, Ontario is located in a planning mill owned by J.D. Moore, who built it in 1869. The building was one of the first brick block structures on Queen Street.
The building was a three-story, six-bay block. It was one of the earliest brick blocks on Queen Street. It was constructed of red brick trimmed with buff. Moore was the founder of the “J.D. Moore Cold Storage Company”. He also owned an oatmeal mill.
The building was first built as a planning mill circa 1860, then converted into a creamery in 1915, a garden centre in 1972, and finally a restaurant in 1982. The building operated under numerous carpenters as a planning mill and sash, door, and bind factory. However, fire and floods were devastating to this.
Now on 120 Parkview Drive it was turned into a creamery where milk, cream, butter and cheese were produced. It operated successfully as a creamery for many years. The property first officially became a restaurant in 1982 and was known as the Parkview Creamery Restaurant. It has been a restaurant since then, with various owners, managers, and business names, but is known locally as “The Creamery.”
Today, you can enjoy fine food and drink and go for a walk through the park and riverside across the road afterwards.
