MIDDLESEX CENTRE - Middlesex Centre firefighters have another tool in their tool kit. And this one is designed to help pets. The municipality has received a donation of pet oxygen masks, that will be distributed to all fire stations and included in emergency response kits on designated apparatus.
“Although this is not something we have had to do in Middlesex Centre, we always prepare as best we can. This gracious donation will help us do just that!,” says Fire Chief Colin Toth.
The Pet Oxygen masks were donated by Invisible Fence by arrangement with the Ilderton Pet Hospital. The municipality officially took delivery of them at a presentation on May 8th.
The masks are specially designed to provide oxygen for pets suffering from smoke inhalation during a fire. They come in different sizes, suitable for a variety of animals including dogs and cats. Firefighters will receive training on the proper use of Pet Oxygen Masks, including how to attach them to oxygen sources. “As someone who has had a pet my entire life, losing them is always devastating. We appreciate the donation of these oxygen masks, which will help us come to the aid of pets in need,” says Toth.
Middlesex Centre social media platforms will be used to inform the community about the newly added masks and the importance of including pets in emergency preparedness plans. It’s a timely donation, as Emergency Preparedness Week was marked from May 4th to May 10th. “Know the risks of hazards and emergencies we are likely to face in Middlesex Centre such as extreme temperatures and flooding. We encourage residents to make a plan and prepare an emergency kit,’ says Toth.
