LUCAN – At Sweet Pea Fusion Studio, the goal is not just movement, but pause - a place designed for people to step out of busy routines, take a breath, and reconnect with both body and mind.
Founder and owner Kelly Hefford opened the studio after a journey that began online during the pandemic. At the time, she was teaching yoga virtually in the evenings and on weekends, gradually building a small but committed community.
“I started teaching online and created this virtual culture,” Kelly said. “As it grew, my husband and I realized it was time to let it become something more.”
Before committing to a permanent space, Kelly spent nearly two years hosting pop-up classes in small towns across the region, including Ingersoll, Thamesford, and Lucan. “We wanted to see where people were really looking for something like this,” she said.
Lucan quickly stood out. After several months of renovations, largely done by Kelly herself with help from family and friends, Sweet Pea Fusion Studio officially opened on Remembrance Day.
“It’s a very young studio,” she said. “But it’s been incredible. Our teachers are happy, our clients love it, and the community response has been amazing.”
The name Sweet Pea carries personal meaning. Kelly began calling her daughter “my sweet pea” when she was a baby, and the nickname stayed. The word fusion reflects the studio’s philosophy of blending styles and approaches rather than focusing on just one. Even the studio’s purple accents were chosen intentionally to create a calm, welcoming atmosphere.
Yoga remains the foundation of the studio, but Sweet Pea Fusion offers a variety of classes, including Pilates, yoga-Pilates fusion, Zumba, HIIT, and specialty sessions such as sound healing with singing bowls. The studio primarily serves adults, with participants ranging from young adults to seniors.
“We are a boutique-style studio,” Kelly explained. “We don’t want huge classes. We want people to feel seen and supported.”
That philosophy extends to the teaching team. Sweet Pea Fusion works with a small group of instructors, each encouraged to bring their own style and passion into their classes. “People come for the teacher, not just the class name,” Kelly said.
For those who live farther away, the studio continues to offer virtual lunch-hour yoga sessions during the week.
At its heart, Sweet Pea Fusion Studio is about community. “There’s something special about having a space like this right here,” Kelly said. “Community is everything.”
