Written By Cathy Burghardt-Jesson, Mayor of Lucan-Biddulph
After thoughtful consideration, I am announcing that I will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming municipal election.
This decision did not come easily. Public service requires a deep commitment, and it has been my privilege to give my full energy and heart to this role. However, I believe it is now time for me to step back and allow space for new leadership, fresh ideas, and continued growth in our community.
It has been an honour to serve Lucan Biddulph as Mayor, Middlesex County as both Councillor and Warden. To the residents of Lucan Biddulph–thank you. I am and will always be deeply grateful for the trust and support I have received throughout my time in office. I have had the privilege of working alongside dedicated colleagues, passionate community members, and tireless municipal staff to make meaningful progress on behalf of our residents.
I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together. During my time in office, Lucan Biddulph has grown and evolved in meaningful and visible ways, and it has been exciting to witness that progress firsthand. From the expansion of the Industrial Park and the development of our new Administrative Offices, to a comprehensive and well-crafted Official Plan Amendment, we have laid the groundwork for long-term success. Housing and retail growth have advanced, business supports have expanded through our Economic Development Department, and our road network has continued to be well maintained. Initiatives such as the Mayor’s Honour Roll, the upcoming tender for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion, and the revitalization of our Arena, Pool, and Community Centre—made possible through our Kraft Hockeyville success—have further strengthened and secured our community’s foundation for the future.
I must also acknowledge my family. It has been said and it is true, a role like this cannot be taken on without the support of family. Kirk, Andrew, Luke, Brandon and Noah, you have always been my biggest cheerleaders and you have always kept me humble. Thank you for supporting me, it hasn’t always been easy, it has often been demanding, but you have always had my back.
While I will not be seeking re-election, I remain committed to my current responsibilities and I am excited for the work ahead in 2026. My commitment to this community remains as strong as ever. I look forward to supporting its continued success in new and different ways.
Thank you again for the honour of serving you.
