KOMOKA - The ayes have it. Or should that be the “eyes” have it, in a contest sponsored by Komoka Optometry and Eye Spa.
The business invited people to take part in a contest to design original artwork or photography to be featured on custom lens cloths and lens cleaner bottles.
Owner, Dr. Christina Chan says the community response exceeded expectations. “We received several dozen submissions from community members across different age groups, and the level of creativity and thought that went into each piece was impressive,” says Chan.
A small group of judges reviewed the entries and decided on the winners. “The winning designs were selected based on creativity, originality, and how well the artwork translated to a small-scale format like a lens cloth and bottle label. We also looked for designs that felt joyful, visually balanced, and reflective of eye health or vision in some way,” says Chan.
Many of the artists drew their inspiration from nature, such as scenery and animals. “Some of the more unusual and memorable designs incorporated abstract patterns or playful interpretations of how artists imagine the world through their eyes, which we loved,” says Chan.
The winners have been decided, so it’s on to the next step. “We have yet to get them printed on the bottles and cloths but we are very excited to give them out to the community,” says Chan.
Fashion and eyewear go hand in hand, and that’s now complemented by unique accessories. “Eyewear is a form of self-expression, just like fashion. By pairing stylish frames with custom, artist-designed accessories, we’re reinforcing the idea that glasses are not just functional—they’re personal and creative. This initiative adds another layer of individuality to the eyewear experience,” says Chan.
There were three prizes up for grabs. The second and third place entries received $100 and $50 gift cards respectively. The first-place winner received a pair of Oakley Meta Smart Glasses. “Smart glasses combine traditional eyewear with modern technology, offering features such as hands-free connectivity and audio integration. They’re growing in popularity, particularly among people who enjoy blending convenience, technology, and style into their everyday lives. They represent where eyewear is heading—functional, connected, and still fashionable,” says Chan.
