Press Release from the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex

GLENCOE – The Municipality of Southwest Middlesex is pleased to announce that it has secured up to $4,296,050 in provincial funding through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program – Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS) for the Glencoe Outlet Drain Stormwater Conveyance Improvement Project.
The total eligible cost of the project is $5,885,000, with the Municipality and County contributing $1,588,950 (27%) toward this critical infrastructure investment.
The Glencoe Outlet Drain Stormwater Conveyance Improvement Project will deliver a major upgrade to Glencoe’s stormwater system, including 1.25 kilometres of new storm sewer to better move water safely through the community. This investment will strengthen the Town’s drainage network, reduce flood risk during increasingly severe weather events, and help protect homes, families, roads, and neighbourhoods for generations to come.
Mayor Allan Mayhew emphasized the significance of the investment for the community: “This funding is transformational for Glencoe and for Southwest Middlesex. It allows us to take meaningful action to reduce stormwater risk, strengthen our local infrastructure, and protect the homes and neighbourhoods families rely on every day. We are sincerely grateful to the Province of Ontario for investing in rural communities like ours.”
Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton–Kent–Middlesex, added: “Strong infrastructure is the foundation of strong communities. Through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, our government is investing in projects that protect residents while enablinghousing growth across Ontario. Supporting this upgrade in Glencoe will help ensure Southwest Middlesex has the infrastructure in place to build, grow, and thrive.”
Construction is currently forecasted to begin in March 2027, with completion anticipated by September 2028. The project will be delivered in phases and proceed in accordance with the Drainage Act process and provincial funding requirements.
To ensure residents are informed and engaged, the Municipality will host a public open house in the spring of 2026 to share project details, timelines, and next steps. Additional details about the open house will be shared in the coming weeks.
