ILDERTON - The Ilderton Cycling Club is encouraging people to enjoy fun, fitness and fellowship by joining their ranks. “It might be nice to ride and train on your own but by joining a club you can truly get the most out of cycling. In a club you can make new friends, learn from more experienced riders, share routes and training tips, and create a new social group,” says club founder Don Taylor.
Taylor started the club in 2017 .“I saw cyclists in the area riding alone and wanted to unite everyone mostly for safety (share the road and cycling in Ontario) a group is safer than on your own,” says Taylor. There are currently ten active members in the club and people of different cycling abilities are welcome to join. “The Ilderton Cycling Club aims to promote health, wellness, and community spirit through the sport of cycling. The club’s vision is to create an inclusive environment where cyclists of all ages and skill levels can come together, enjoy the sport, and support each other in their cycling journeys,” says
Taylor.
Each ride is determined by factors like weather, distance and who shows up. Most recently participants have been doing what’s called the “Lucan Loop” which is a 35-kilometer ride where Taylor says cyclists
have been averaging 26 kilometers an hour.
The Club embraces core values that include inclusivity, community, health and wellness and adventure. Taylor himself has cycled more than 10,000 kilometers in the past nine years and participated in a number of events including the Ride to Conquer Cancer which involved cycling from Toronto to
Niagara Falls. “As a group we support and encourage each other to be the best they can be without
judgement,” says Taylor. People interested in joining the Ilderton Cycling Club are invited to check out the group on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Ilderton-CyclingClub.
