MIDDLESEX CENTRE - Middlesex County Engineer, Chris Traini, provided an update to Middlesex Centre council on the Glendon Drive roundabout now under construction. “We’re very excited to have it underway,” said Traini. “We really appreciate everyone’s patience with the project. Any time we have a construction site and we start introducing detours, there’s always a bit of growing pains,” added Traini.
Detours were put in place earlier this month during construction of the roundabout, which is going in at the intersection of Glendon Drive and Vanneck Road/Jeffries Road/Coldstream Road. “We are expecting to see the roundabout fully operational by about mid-November,” said Traini.
The total cost of the project is pegged at just under $6 million. “It’s a big project for the County of Middlesex. It’s an important project not only for the County but for Middlesex Centre,” said Traini. “This is one of the busiest intersections in Middlesex County. This roundabout is going to provide safe and efficient movement of traffic for years to come,” added Traini.
Although Traini expressed his appreciation for the patience of motorists, he voiced concern about those who have been using Old River Road off Glendon Drive as a way around the construction. “I would greatly urge people to not use Old River Road as a part of their detour route. It’s not part of the official detour route. It is closed to local traffic. It’s local traffic only,” said Traini. He said it’s especially dangerous when drivers make left turns onto Old River Road. “The sightlines there are such that it is dangerous to make that turn. You’re not only putting yourself at risk, but other drivers along those sections of road.”
With the roundabout expected to be operational in November, further construction will be halted until the spring. “Our sidewalks, pathways, top surface asphalt, the realignment of Coldstream Road and all those parts of the project will happen in 2025,” said Traini.
Information about the roundabout is posted on both the Middlesex County and Middlesex Centre websites.
