SPORTS - North Middlesex Stars has moved up to third place in the West Yeck Division and played only one game last weekend. That match was November 10 against the Mount Brydges Bulldogs in their arena.
The Stars haven’t played as many games as most in the division. They have played only 14 games this season compared to several teams having played 18 and Exeter twenty.
Period one Sunday was scoreless, and it would take almost halfway into the second before the Bulldogs went on the board. In period three, Mount Brydges made it a two-goal game until Bannister scored a power play goal at 5:44. The game ended 2-1 for the Bulldogs.
Meanwhile, the Lucan Irish struggle at the bottom of the West Yeck Division as they continue to lose game after game, winning only two since the start of the season. Thursday night, 7 November, Lucan played Petrolia on their turf, scoring once in the first but losing 10-1.
Saturday, 9 November, they hosted the Exeter Hawks for a night game. Muller scored for Lucan after the Hawks made first blood. The Hawks would score the go-ahead goal before the first period buzzer. Periods two and three belonged to the visitors who scored three times in each to win 8-1.
Sunday’s game was an afternoon match between Lucan and Aylmer at the East Elgan Community Complex. Muller scored a power play goal just prior to the period one buzzer, while the Spitfires remained silent. Aylmer came on in the second, scoring a tie goal, then another later in the period. They would be outdone by the Irish who made three more goals.
In the third period, Irish fans were on edge as they hoped their team could sustain the lead. Willis scored a power play goal for Lucan at 5:46 to give them a three-goal lead. But Lucan sustained several penalties after to give the fans more nail-biting action.
Lucan continued their drive to the Spitfires’ net and maintained their lead to give them a much-needed win of 5-2 and a third win this season.
