LUCAN BIDDULPH – On December 13, the Lucan community came together for the much-anticipated Annual Lighting of the Lights event, held at Market Street Park. This festive occasion was made possible through the hard work and dedication of the Lucan District Lions Club, who partnered with the town to create a memorable evening for everyone.
Despite a slight delay caused by snow removal, the night was a true celebration of community spirit. As Mayor Cathy Burghardt-Jesson addressed the crowd, she expressed her gratitude for everyone’s patience. “It’s a great night here at Market Street Park. Although there was a week’s delay, we appreciate everyone’s patience. We wanted to ensure the snow was removed to guarantee a safe and enjoyable evening for all,” she said. The mayor also took a moment to recognize the Lions Club for their tremendous efforts. “Not only are they serving hot dogs and hot chocolate tonight, but they’ve also done all the physical labour to set up the lights in the park. A huge shout-out to the Lions Club for everything they’ve done this year.”
At 6 p.m., the crowd gathered in anticipation as the countdown to the lighting began. DJ Dave’s music filled the air with festive tunes, setting the perfect atmosphere for the event. As the lights were switched on, the park was transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland, with bright, colorful lights illuminating the space and bringing holiday cheer to everyone in attendance.
The Lucan District Lions Club kept the crowd warm with free hot dogs and hot chocolate, offering a cozy treat for those braving the chilly weather. The community’s support was evident as families and friends gathered to celebrate the season together.
The celebration continued with a fun and interactive countdown, led by Mayor Burghardt-Jesson. “The moment we’ve all been waiting for! Are you ready?” she called, as the crowd joined in for the final countdown. With excitement building, the lights finally lit up, marking the start of a festive season that will continue to shine through mid-January.
This year’s Lighting of the Lights was a beautiful reminder of the joy that community events bring and the dedication of those who make them happen. The Lucan District Lions Club’s hard work and the town’s collective spirit made this event one to remember. Don’t forget to visit Market Street Park and enjoy the lights throughout the holiday season!
