SOUTHWEST MIDDLESEX — Council has moved forward with a request to extend the review timeline for its longstanding agreement with the Glencoe Agricultural Society. The decision was made during the December 18 council meeting, following a report presented by CAO Amanda Gubbels.
The current 20-year lease agreement, signed between the municipality and the agricultural society, governs the use of lands that support municipal amenities and facilities. As part of the agreement, a formal review is scheduled every five years to ensure the terms remain relevant and beneficial to both parties. The next review was originally due in 2024.
Gubbels explained that operational changes within the municipality delayed the initiation of discussions with the agricultural society. The proposed extension would allow more time for a thorough review and collaborative dialogue between the two parties. “If the recommendation in the report is approved, there is no direction being given at this time beyond sending the letter of notification. Council will have further opportunities for discussion with the Glencoe Agricultural Society in the future,” Gubbels said.
The extension proposal reflects the municipality’s commitment to fostering a constructive partnership with the Glencoe Agricultural Society, a relationship that has long supported community services and events. The CAO emphasized that the extension would not result in any financial implications for the municipality.
During the meeting, council members expressed no objections to the proposed extension, and the motion to approve the recommendation was swiftly carried. Councillor Ed Myers moved the motion, seconded by Councillor Amy Choi, before it was unanimously approved by council.
Both parties are expected to begin discussions in 2025 to address any updates or changes required in the agreement.
This decision underscores the importance of maintaining transparent and cooperative relationships between the municipality and local organizations.
