SPORTS - Junior C hockey continues to play out as the Lucan Irish and North Middlesex Stars met twice last weekend. On Saturday January 11, Lucan hosted North Middlesex, and the game ended in a 4-1 win for the Stars. On Sunday January 12 it was in Parkhill where the Stars played host and took another win from Lucan, 2-1.
On Friday January 17 Lucan went to Exeter to play against the Hawks. The home team scored in each period as the Irish remained quiet, losing 4-0.
Saturday January 18 Lucan was in Mount Brydges for a match against the Bulldogs. Mount Brydges got the puck rolling at 3:25 followed by a Lucan goal to tie the game early. The Bulldogs would score the go-ahead soon after. Period two began with a powerplay goal by the home team and then it was back and forth, each team scoring; however, Mount Brydges scored one extra to make it a 5-3 game for them. In period three each made a point before the period was half over, but that’s all she wrote. The score was 6-4 for the Bulldogs.
Meanwhile, after the two wins for North Middlesex against Lucan, the Stars played a Tuesday game on January 14 in Port Stanley against the Sailors. The home boys have come up in the world this season winning many games and climbing the standings chart. This game was little different as the Stars were scoreless in the first while the Sailors scored once in each period taking a 3-2 win.
On January 18 North Middlesex hosted the Sailors in the Ilderton arena. A nice turnout of fans—278—watched a while before the Stars scored, then the Sailors soon after. In the second period, Bos made his second goal of the night for North Middlesex followed by another home score putting the Stars two ahead. Port Stanley found the net twice after that, then Musselman made his second of the night, keeping the Stars one ahead.
The third period was exciting as Musselman scored his third within 52 seconds of the start followed by a Port Stanley goal a while later. With a little more than two minutes remaining, and the Stars ahead by one, Musselman made his fourth goal of the night to put the Stars in a 6-4 win. Caleb Musselman got the first star for the evening while Will Bos received number two.
