ILDERTON - The puck dropped on Hockey Day in Ilderton Saturday January 18th. It’s an annual event that has been running since 2016. “It was inspired by Hockey Day in Canada that CBC TV puts on every year,” says Ilderton Jets President Andy Marshall.
It was an action-packed day at the Ilderton Arena and Community Centre that featured Jets games from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Throughout the day there was lots of food and fun, including a snacks table to benefit the Oxbow Grad Committee.
Perhaps the highlight of the event was the coaches game that showcased the hockey skills of coaches from the Ilderton Minor Hockey Association. The activities wrapped up with a Jr. C game featuring the Port Stanley Sailors vs the North Middlesex Stars.
“While Ilderton may not be a big Centre, there’s no doubt youth in the community are provided with a minor hockey experience that rivals that of much larger cities. And it’s all thanks to the various clubs (Ilderton Lions, Curling Club, Optimist Club), plus the many volunteers and of course the Executive of Ilderton Minor Hockey who want to see kids enjoy their time playing the great game of hockey,” says Marshall.
Hockey Day in Ilderton is all about fun and friendly competition, and it comes as the Jets enjoy another successful season. Recent highlights include a top place finish for the boys U10 Select at the Hespeler Olympics and a gold for the girls U11B at the Guelph Winter classic.
