STRATHROY - In Strathroy, there is a special place where teens can have fun, make new friends, and grow in their faith. It’s called the Teen Youth Group at Providence United Reformed Church (URC). Twice a month, teens come together on Sundays for a time full of laughter, learning, and connection.
This group is led by caring adults who want to help teens feel welcome and supported. One of the organizers, Amy Oosterhof, shared what makes the group so special: “The teen youth group at Providence United Reformed Church meets two Sundays a month for a fun time with games, food, and good company. We usually start things off with lunch and snacks—perfect for relaxing and catching up. It’s a laid-back, welcoming space where friendships grow and everyone gets a chance to connect, share, and build their faith. Each time we meet, we dive into a Bible passage together, either as one big group or in smaller ones. Alongside all that, we mix in extra fun with things like tubing, beach days, mini golf, and bowling—so there’s always something to look forward to!”
When teens arrive, they are greeted by the smell of fresh snacks, the sound of laughter, and friendly faces ready to welcome them. The space is relaxed and cheerful, filled with conversations, games, and moments of real connection.
But the group is about more than just fun and food. Teens also take part in team-building activities and special workshops that help them grow as individuals. These sessions are designed to teach them how to build strong relationships, understand what truly matters in life, and treat others with kindness and respect. They play team games that encourage them to work together, listen to one another, and solve problems as a group.
These moments are important because they help teens develop life skills they will carry into adulthood. They learn how to communicate, how to support others, and how to be a good friend.
The Bible study part is also key. Teens get the chance to read God’s Word and talk about it together. Sometimes they meet in a large group, and other times they split into smaller groups to share more personally.
Parents appreciate the positive environment, knowing their teens are not only having fun but are also learning important values and building a strong foundation for life.
