SPORTS - There’s a new coach at the helm of the Komoka Kings hockey team. Johnny Warren takes over as head coach from Rumun Ndur.
“We’re thrilled to have Johnny join the Kings organization. He brings tremendous knowledge and passion that will greatly benefit the team,” says Kings President and General Manager Roop Chanderdat.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity Roop has given me. Looking forward to getting started at our Mini Camp,” says Warren.
The Kings are coming off a disappointing season, finishing last in their division with a 5 and 42 win-loss record. Warren is hoping to turn things around for the 2025-2026 season. “By building a more positive and higher standards mindset, my coaching staff and I are hoping things can start heading in the right direction. Our goal this year is to make the playoffs,” says Warren.
The Kings new head coach brings seven years of coaching experience with the Elgin-Middlesex Canucks organization. His accomplishments include helping to secure two Alliance AAA Championships in 2022 and 2023. The 28-year-old Walker has also spent the past three seasons as a Hockey Operations Assistant with the London Knights. He also spent time as a player, with both the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League and as a member of the London Knights.
Among his first orders of business as Head Coach of the Kings, Warren reached out to some of the older, returning players. “I’m looking forward to meeting and connecting more as we head into the spring/summer,” says Warren.
Warren says he’s been working with his coaching team for a while which will be a strength. “With our familiarity with one another we hope to build a positive and winning environment. I’d describe my coaching style as a tactical approach, as well as relationship building to get the most out of my players,” says Warren.
As for priorities heading into the new season: “My coaching staff and I are currently working together to determine what roles and changes need to be made to the team. We’re hoping to add some strong young talent to help compliment the older players on our team that are returning,” says Warren.
