LUCAN BIDDULPH – The Township hosted a lively two-day Canada Day celebration on June 30 and July 1, drawing in thousands of residents and visitors for music, food, activities, and community spirit.
Festivities began on Monday evening, June 30, with food trucks and live music, followed by fireworks display that lit up the sky near the Ball Diamond and Dog Park.
“We had record crowds Monday evening,” said Lisa deBoer, Economic Development and Communications Officer for the Township. “I would say probably 1,500 people came out just for the fireworks – it was excellent.”
Celebrations continued the next day with a full line-up of family-oriented events, including a bike rodeo, inflatable attractions, public skating and swimming, and free food provided in collaboration with local organizations.
“We probably have well over 2,000 people here today, in and out throughout the day,” deBoer shared.
The event was supported by a strong partnership between the Township and the Lucan Optimist Club, along with the participation of the Lucan Library, McDonald’s, the Lucan Area Heritage & Donnelly Museum, and other community groups.
Mayor Cathy Burghardt-Jesson welcomed attendees during a short address and joined in the ceremonial cake cutting. “Happy Canada Day, everybody! What a great crowd we’ve got, and I’m so thrilled to see everybody enjoying everything that’s going on,” she said. “Special thanks to the Optimist Club, McDonald’s, the library, and of course the Heritage group for putting on lunch today. 158 years of Canada – couldn’t be a better country. Proud to say I’m Canadian, and I’m sure you all are too.”
Volunteers helped manage the flow of attendees throughout the day, ensuring activities ran smoothly and families felt welcome. Township staff also remained on-site to assist with coordination and logistics.
DeBoer emphasized the collaborative effort behind the success: “The Township partners with the Optimist Club to bring all the events. The bike rodeo, inflatables, skating, swimming – it’s all made possible with their support.”
In addition to family fun, the event provided a space for neighbours to connect and celebrate together.
The celebration was made possible thanks to contributions from the Township of Lucan Biddulph, Lucan Optimist Club, Department of Canadian Heritage, Lucan Area Heritage & Donnelly Museum, Lucan Legion, Lucan Foodland, and many dedicated volunteers.
With strong attendance and positive feedback, the event once again affirmed Lucan Biddulph’s reputation for hosting meaningful community gatherings.
