ADELAIDE METCALFE – Andrew Campbell has been appointed by council to fill the seat left vacant by former councillor Arend Noordhof, who resigned in May after relocating outside the township. The decision was made during council’s regular meeting on July 21, 2025.
The appointment follows a public selection process initiated earlier this summer. Clerk and Manager of Legislative Services Michael Barnier outlined the timeline and procedure during the meeting, noting that council had opted for an application-based appointment model in accordance with the Municipal Act. The township received six qualified applications between June 8 and June 27, advertised through the municipal website, social media, and the Middlesex Banner.
Barnier confirmed that all applicants had met the eligibility criteria outlined in provincial legislation. The six individuals who applied were David Bolton, Andrew Campbell, Eric Dennison, Lisa Early, Mary Ann Hendrikx, and Carlos Trindade.
During the meeting, council moved into discussion and ultimately selected Andrew Campbell to fill the vacancy. In a statement shared by the municipality after the meeting, officials expressed appreciation for the level of community interest: “Council was encouraged by the strong response and the high level of interest from community members who put their names forward. The Township received six applications from engaged and well-qualified residents, reflecting a commendable level of civic involvement and commitment to local government.”
Campbell will be formally sworn in at the next council meeting on August 11. Following the swearing-in ceremony, he will begin orientation with township staff and participate in council activities, including upcoming budget discussions.
The motion to move forward with the appointment process was carried unanimously, with the nomination made and seconded by councillors during the meeting. Clerk Barnier emphasized that while council had the option to deliberate in closed session, the final vote took place publicly, as required by law.
