ADELAIDE METCALFE — At its regular meeting on Monday, August 11, council formally welcomed Andrew Campbell as the newest member of the Township of Adelaide Metcalfe. Campbell, appointed to fill the vacant council seat following the resignation of Councillor Noordhof earlier this year, officially took the Declaration of Office in front of council and staff.
“Pursuant to Section 232 of the Municipal Act, 2001, Andrew Campbell, as a newly appointed member of council, will take the declaration of office,” explained Michael Barnier, Clerk and Manager of Legislative Services, as he introduced the procedure. Barnier outlined that the declaration confirms Campbell’s commitment to carry out his duties with integrity, transparency, and loyalty to His Majesty King Charles III.
Standing before council, Councillor Campbell read the declaration: “I will truly, faithfully, and impartially exercise this office to the best of my knowledge and ability. I have not received and will not receive any payment or reward… for the exercise of this office in a biased, corrupt, or improper manner. I will disclose any pecuniary interest… in accordance with the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act.”
Following the signing of the declaration, Barnier confirmed the document would be submitted to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and noted that Campbell would immediately assume his duties. “We are ready with the appointment by-law at the end,” he said.
Mayor Sue Clarke welcomed the new councillor on behalf of the township: “Welcome, Councillor Campbell. I guess we need to get your name tag, so that’ll be the next order of business.”
Campbell will participate in upcoming council deliberations and is expected to join budget committee work later this year.
