KOMOKA - The Komoka Community Centre is getting some upgrades. And while the renovations are taking place, the Centre on Queen’s Ave in Komoka will be closed from September 1st to the 19th.
The renovations include adding a new universally accessible washroom in the lobby that features an automatic door opener and accessible fixtures. “The Universal Washroom addition at the Komoka Community Centre will further support the Municipality of Middlesex Centre commitment to accessibility and inclusion as there currently was no true accessible/universal washroom,” says Manager of Community Services Justin Fidler. “All other Community Centres in Middlesex Centre currently have had Universal washrooms constructed over the last 6 years with the Komoka Community Centre being the last one to be completed,” adds Fidler.
The renovations also include updated basketball backboards, rims and nets as well as new volleyball posts and nets. The Centre will also add to its storage systems.
Flooring is being replaced in the main hall to include what’s described as a “sport-friendly” surface to support recreational activities. “We have seen an expansion in sports and recreation programming at the Komoka Community Centre. The new flooring that will be installed in the main hall will not only look great, but it will enhance both comfort and safety for all users,” says Communications Manager Heather Kepran.
The total cost of the renovations is just over $107,000 with funding provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
