Press Release from the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex
GLENCOE – The Glencoe District Lions Club, in partnership with the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex, is proud to officially launch the Project 2000 Revitalization Campaign, a community initiative focused on upgrading and refreshing the Project 2000 pavilion and washroom facilities at the Southwest Middlesex Recreation Centre.
Led by the Glencoe District Lions Club, with administrative and fundraising support provided by the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex, the campaign builds upon the Lions Club’s original leadership in constructing the facility through community fundraising efforts in 2000.
Council has approved a revitalization project aimed at improving accessibility, functionality, and the overall appearance of the facility, which has served residents and visitors for more than 25 years. The Glencoe District Lions Club has also committed a lead contribution of $20,000 toward the project.
Planned upgrades include:
- New accessible washroom partitions
- Accessible counters, sinks, and faucets
- Automatic flush and touchless fixtures
- New entrance doors and hardware
- Interior and exterior painting
- General repairs and maintenance improvements
- An overall beautification and refresh of the facility
The project is being completed in advance of the upcoming summer season, including high-profile fastball tournament expected to be partially hosted in the community over the next several years. These events are anticipated to welcome approximately 3,000–5,000 visitors annually to Southwest Middlesex and will provide an important opportunity to showcase the community to players, families, and visitors from across the region.
In addition to supporting major events and tourism activity, the revitalized facility will continue to serve residents through local recreation programming, tournaments, and community gatherings for years to come. The Municipality has also entered into a service agreement for operation of the booth facility, ensuring it will once again be open and actively used to provide service and amenities to the community this season.
As part of the campaign launch, the Glencoe District Lions Club and Municipality of Southwest Middlesex are inviting local businesses, organizations, community groups, families, and residents to participate through sponsorship opportunities and donations.
“Project 2000 has been an important part of our community for more than two decades, and these upgrades will help ensure the facility continues to serve residents and visitors well into the future,” said Mayor Allan Mayhew. “Council is proud to support this revitalization project and grateful for the continued leadership and partnership of the Glencoe District Lions Club as we work together to enhance this important community asset.”
