LUCAN – Residents are being invited to experience downtown Lucan in a festive and interactive way this holiday season through Sleigh the Clues, a digital scavenger hunt aimed at highlighting Main Street while encouraging support for local businesses.
Running from Dec. 8 to Dec. 31, the initiative uses the Goosechase mobile app to guide participants through a series of photo-based challenges located along Main Street Lucan. Individuals, families, and groups can participate at their own pace, making the event accessible throughout the busy holiday period.
Participants are prompted to complete a variety of themed missions that encourage exploration and creativity. Challenges include photographing murals, public art, or seasonal decor, capturing images of unique business logos and storefront displays, and taking creative photos in front of favourite shops. Other tasks invite participants to visit local restaurants and bakeries, share photos of menu items or snacks, and, where permission is given, take friendly selfies with business staff.
Several challenges are designed to directly support local commerce. One task encourages participants to make a small purchase – under $5 – at a Lucan-Biddulph business and submit a photo of the item. These hands-on missions reward higher point values, reinforcing the goal of increased foot traffic and engagement with downtown businesses.
Points are awarded for each completed challenge and tracked within the app. At the conclusion of the event, the top three scores will be eligible to win a $100 gift card to a local business. Organizers note that in the event of tied scores, a draw will be used to determine the final winners.
By combining a seasonal activity with a digital platform, Sleigh the Clues offers a flexible way for residents to explore downtown over multiple visits. Participants can complete challenges while running errands, meeting friends, or enjoying a casual walk, turning everyday outings into an interactive holiday experience.
The scavenger hunt also encourages participants to slow down and notice details they might otherwise pass by, from window displays to architectural features and public spaces. In doing so, the initiative highlights the diversity of businesses and visual character found along the Main Street in Lucan, while promoting community connection during the holiday season.
Those interested in taking part can join the scavenger hunt by downloading the Goosechase app and entering event code V817LT, or by accessing the event link provided by Discover Lucan Biddulph. The event runs until Dec. 31, giving residents multiple opportunities to participate before the end of the year.
