Written By Colin Grantham, Mayor of Strathroy-Caradoc
As the holiday season approaches, I want to take a moment to wish the residents of Strathroy-Caradoc a safe, healthy, and joyful time with family, friends, and loved ones. The end of the year is always a natural opportunity to pause and reflect on the past twelve months—on the challenges we faced, the milestones we achieved, and the moments of joy we shared. The holidays give us a chance to slow down and truly appreciate all that we have accomplished, both personally and professionally, and to celebrate those achievements with the people who matter most.
Looking back on 2025, I feel extremely fortunate to work alongside a Council and staff team that is committed, capable, and collaborative. Together, we have made meaningful strides that strengthen our community and improve the services we provide. Among the many accomplishments this year are several significant milestones. We implemented a new Council procedural by-law, which now includes a consent agenda to streamline our meetings and make decision-making more efficient. Organizational structure adjustments have been made to better align our resources with our goals, ensuring that staff are empowered to provide the highest level of service to our residents.
Infrastructure and technology also saw important improvements this year. We advanced new wastewater solutions that enhance the reliability and sustainability of our systems, while the Council Chambers received upgraded technology to support more efficient meetings and communications. Our community visioning initiative, Vision 2055, continues to guide long-term planning, and we launched a new customer service strategy designed to ensure residents experience seamless and responsive service in all interactions with the municipality.
This year also brought exciting additions to our staff, strengthening our capacity to serve the community. Our Building Services Division underwent a thoughtful renewal, improving processes and services for residents and businesses alike. Technology upgrades, including the integration of Microsoft 365 and Teams, have enhanced collaboration and efficiency across departments. Our efforts and achievements did not go unnoticed, with an EDCO award nomination recognizing the hard work and dedication of our team and community partners for the Canvas & Culture Night Market event. The Strong Mayor Budget framework is being successfully navigated, and the official opening of our new Fire Station No. 1 in Strathroy marked a major milestone in community safety.
In addition, we hosted a number of successful events that brought residents together and celebrated the vibrancy of our community. These accomplishments, along with countless other projects and initiatives, highlight the collective dedication, professionalism, and passion that drive our municipality forward.
None of these achievements would have been possible without the strong partnership between Council and staff. While our roles are distinct—Council providing governance and strategic direction, and staff delivering expertise and operational support—it is the alignment of both that enables progress and ensures we achieve our shared goals. Council relies on staff to provide advice, recommendations, and information, and it is through thoughtful deliberation that decisions are made to benefit the community as a whole. At the same time, staff depend on Council’s leadership and guidance to ensure that our projects and initiatives are in step with the community’s priorities. This cooperative spirit is at the heart of everything we accomplish.
Looking ahead, 2026 promises to be another busy and exciting year. Many projects are in the planning stages or already underway, from infrastructure improvements to community initiatives, and there will be ample opportunities for us to continue building on the successes of 2025. I have no doubt that, working together, Council and staff will continue to deliver innovative solutions, maintain excellent service standards, and strengthen the sense of community that makes our municipality such a special place to live, work and play.
As we close out this year, I want to express my sincere gratitude to every member of our team, both Council and staff, for your dedication, creativity, and hard work. I also want to extend my best wishes to the residents of Strathroy-Caradoc for a happy, healthy, and peaceful holiday season.
May 2026 bring good health, personal fulfillment, and continued prosperity for you and for our entire community. Let us take this time to celebrate our achievements, recharge for the year ahead, and approach the future with optimism and a shared commitment to making our municipality the best it can be.
