One of the things I love most about living in Middlesex County is having access to so many outdoor farmers’ markets. I’m always a little sad at this time of year, when the cooling weather tells me that the end of outdoor market season is approaching. This is why I was thrilled last year to discover the Komoka Community Market Winter Hub (otherwise known as “The KCM Food Hub +”).
For the 2026 season, The Komoka Community Market (KCM) has been running Saturday mornings outside of the Komoka Wellness Centre since Victoria Day weekend in May; Thanksgiving weekend will see its last market day on October 10. The KCM provides a vibrant gathering space where you can say hello to neighbours and friends, browse vendor booths, sip coffee, listen to music, and take in all the wonderful sights, sounds, smells, and tastes that the market has to offer. Most importantly, the market gives you the opportunity to shop for your food and groceries directly from local farmers and makers.
The KCM Winter Hub, which began its first season last October, was created to extend market season, giving customers the opportunity to continue to shop locally year-round. The Hub is an online market space where you can purchase groceries directly from your favourite Komoka Community Market vendors into the winter months. Purchases are then assembled and made available for pick-up on Saturday mornings at the Komoka United Church, or for home delivery for a small fee.
I am thrilled that we’re not quite finished outdoor market season yet; we still have a few more Saturdays left to gather in person. But I am even more excited that the KCM Winter Hub will help me to stay connected to my community, and to have access to local food to nourish my family, even when it’s cold outside! Shopping locally and supporting our farmers continues to be crucial to building our local economy and strengthening food security, while having numerous benefits for our health the health of our environment.
