MIDDLESEX CENTRE - It’s been a busy and exciting summer for soccer in Middlesex Centre. The Ilderton & District Soccer Club kicked off play in May, and they’ve been enjoying fun and team successes ever since.
The U14 Girls took home the hardware as WRSL Kick off Cup Champions. Ilderton Ignite went undefeated over the weekend beating London Alliance 3-2 in the final. They also competed against teams from Windsor, Soo City and Guelph. The girls continued their winning ways as Joe Valvassori Sparta Cup Champions, First on the Turf Champions and Top-Rated Super Cup Finalists.
The team success is one component of a robust soccer program. “Soccer has taken off in Ilderton. We currently have just under 600 players within our club with 200 or so of those players under the age of 6 which paints a bright future for years to come.” says Ilderton & District Soccer Club President, Shawn McCallum.
Among the changes this year have been an expanded list of teams the Club meets in competition. “The league introduced Soo City into the league which has been an exciting addition and welcomed by all teams. Each team in the WRSL league travels to Sault Ste. Marie once to play 2 games,” says McCallum.
As for challenges heading into the future: “Ilderton Soccer Club is always looking for members of the community to assist on the executive committee. “As a club, we are continuously looking for ways to improve the way we do things and offer more for our players, coaches, and parents. With this, we need to make sure we have the support and resources within the club to manage these new initiatives,” says McCallum.
