MIDDLESEX CENTRE - The Komoka Kings opened their 2024-2025 season posting a win and a loss in their first weekend of play.
On Saturday September 14th the Kings fell to the Stratford Warriors 4 to 1 in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd at the Komoka Wellness Centre. Gavin McGahey-Smith was the lone goal scorer for the Kings. He put the puck in the net at 4:21 into the first period, with assists from Justin Skirten and Ethan Alexander.
The home opener was also the debut of new team uniforms, with players wearing purple jerseys to replace the previous black jerseys. Middlesex Centre Mayor Aina DeViet was on hand at the Wellness Centre to perform the ceremonial first puck drop.
The Kings followed the home opener loss with a 5-2 victory on Sunday September 15th against the Chatham Maroons. Alexander Akena opened the scoring for the Kings in the second period with an unassisted goal. Komoka broke open the game in the third period with goals by Nash Coffin, Ben Siroen, Everett Force and a second goal by Akena with less than two minutes left in the game.
