SPORTS - Intercounty rivals, Komoka Kings and Strathroy Rockets took to the ice as the regular season wound down. It was a closely-fought battle, with the Rockets emerging victorious in overtime at the March 9th game at the Komoka Wellness Centre.
Strathroy scored first at the 3:25 mark in the first period with a goal by Lucas Laprise. Assists went to Charlie Stucke and Jeremy Hirsh.
The Kings answered back with a goal by Ethan Alexander with assists from Jagan Chanderdat and Nathaniel Adams.
The game stood tied up going into the second, when Hirsh scored twice; once just under the four-minute mark and later midway through the period.
Zachary LeBlanc, Josh Denes as well as Damian Pancino twice, were credited with the assists on the two goals.
The Kings fought back, with a goal by Nathan Gaitens. Chanderdat once again got an assist, as well as Nathan Adams.
With the Rockets leading by a goal, the Kings pulled their goalie in the final minutes of play. And it was Chanderdat who tied things up for Komoka, sending the game into overtime.
Just over a minute into overtime, Josh Denes put the puck in the net for Strathroy with assists from Brendan Gerber and Stucke.
The final score was 4-3 for the Rockets. This was the final home game of the regular season for the Kings.
