Press Release from the Middlesex Federation of Agriculture
The Middlesex Federation of Agriculture (MFA) is pleased to announce the recipients of the three scholarships that were offered in 2025 totalling $4500.
MFA has awarded scholarships to students in Middlesex County who are pursuing post-secondary education for the past 41 years. The recipients were chosen based on academic achievement, community involvement and their knowledge of agriculture. Recipients were required to submit an application form and attend an interview with the selection committee. MFA received 11 applications this year making the job of the selection committee incredibly difficult.
The three recipients each received cheques for $1500 and hold an award honouring 3 important individuals in Middlesex County:
Dougald McCallum Memorial Scholarship - In 1995 this scholarship was established to recognize Mr. McCallum’s long-time commitment to agriculture in Middlesex County. After serving as MFA President in 1985, Dougald continued to contribute to the Board and organization.
This year’s recipient of the Dougald McCallum scholarship is Megan Benedict. Megan is enrolled in the Agricultural Science program at the University of Guelph.
Meredith Robb Memorial Scholarship - In 2016, the Middlesex Federation named a second Scholarship, recognizing Meredith (1939-2016), another Past President of the MFA. Mr. Robb is most recently remembered for his passion and dedication to farm safety. He was involved in many rural organizations including 4-H, Jr. Farmers, and the Ilderton Ag. Society and Lions Club.
This year’s recipient of the Meredith Robb scholarship is Emilee Langford. Emilee is enrolled in Agricultural Management at Olds College in Alberta.
Steven Fonger Memorial Scholarship - In 2019, the MFA Board named the third scholarship for Steve, (1967-2018) a long-time MFA Director. Steve’s commitment to the organization and service as a PAC (Policy Advisory Council) member to the OFA are being honoured in naming this scholarship.
This year’s recipient of the Steven Fonger scholarship is Andre Crunican. Andre is currently attending the University of Guelph for Mechanical Engineering.
The MFA would like to thank each student who applied for a scholarship and wishes them the very best. For scholarship information or a copy of the application form please visit the MFA website.
