ILDERTON - Hockey Day in Canada was marked on Saturday January 17 with fun, friendship and festivities for the Ilderton Jets, their families, and supporters.
“It’s an opportunity to celebrate hockey as a community,” says Jets Director of Fundraising Debi Demille.
Hockey Day in Canada began in 2000. It’s marked by clubs and enthusiasts of the sport, right across the country. There was a full day of activities in Ilderton, including featured matches and the coaches games.
“It’s just a great excuse to get together as a community at the rink and support each other and our players,” says Demille.
The hockey season is in full swing for the Jets, and the teams are celebrating a number of accomplishments. The U13 Boys White Team has gone 2-0 in the new reseeded division. Kudos go to goaltender Asher Salt, and Spencer Casey who’s on a 4-goal scoring streak. The U9 Girls Tier 1 team showed great effort and team spirit in South Huron’s Pink on the Rink event. And the U18 Girls Division C team took home silver medals at two tournaments.
Other highlights of the season include the goalie development and skater development programs that are in full swing.
The Jets are playing in the updated Ilderton Arena, which features renovated dressing rooms, an improved lobby and community room. “We are adjusting to the changes and settling back in,” says Demille.
People interested in supporting the Jets are urged to go to the team website, for opportunities such as coaching applications. There’s also an annual call for new board members to be voted in at the annual general meeting in the spring.
