SPORTS - The Lucan Irish and North Middlesex Stars Junior C hockey teams played several games as December came in. On December 1st, Lucan met the Mount Brydges Bulldogs at the Tri-Town Ice Arena. The Bulldogs scored first but the Irish brought two of their own before the home boys got two more by the first period alarm. No penalties were garnered by either team.
Lucan came out in the second period scoring two while Mount Brydges kept quiet. The Bulldogs evened the score early in the third till Lucan scored twice. The teams went back and forth scoring three more times each; however, the Lucan Irish would win the day with a score of 7-6.
The following Sunday, December 8, they hosted the North Middlesex Stars, who had played them in Parkhill a week before, taking a 6-3 win. At the time of their game, the Stars stood in fifth place in the West Yeck Division while Lucan was eighth.
Before that game, the Stars had played the Aylmer Spitfires in their camp the loosing to them, 7-6, then had a matchup, on Saturday December 7, the Stars hosting Mount Brydges. The visitors won it 6-4.
The next day, they came to Lucan. These teams play well and offer the fans a great game. The visitors made the first and second goal in period one, the Irish scoring with less than a minute left.
Period two saw the visitors score again, a power play goal, but Lucan scored twice, once again their second goal seconds before the buzzer, to even the score. The third period was action-packed from the start.
The Irish scored 24 seconds into the play. North Middlesex tied the game up less than a minute later. Lucan made the go-ahead goal at 7:07 and the Stars answered seven minutes later to once again tie the game with less than six minutes in regular play. But at 5-5, the teams entered overtime.
After several shootouts, Lucan won the day at 6-5.
